Every second 12 people around the world fall victims of cyber crime, it is paramount that you take every precaution to minimize the chances of this happening to you.

This Video paints the bigger picture and moves us closer to the reality that we are all vulnerable.  




Threats are always changing, by accessing your email, hackers can monitor your dealings and target you accordingly, the above video shows how a person was tricked into handing over more than £46,000. People falling for this tricks are from all walks of life, all operating systems, all websites can fall victims;  A business was scammed into handing over £1million to bogus caller (article), a person that bought a 1.3 million house from a bogus owner (Article).

Ransomware is on the rise, this malware asks you for payment (often bitcoins or digital currency which is untraceable) to decryp your documents after they have been encrypted with a key, unless you pay your documents will be deleted or damaged by encryption, payment does not guaranteed that you will get you documents back. Your computer can become infected by simply visiting on a website.

RATS:  Remote Access Trojans. Phishing - Spear Phishing - Pretexting - Baiting - Scareware

Some Tips:
  1. Update your antivirus and malware software. Total 360 (Recommend)
  2. Have an active firewall (most antivirus software come with firewall)
  3. Set up 2 step verification (Where possible)
  4. Strongest passwords are the ones with more than 1 word, including numbers charterers and even lower and upper cases.
  5. Only download software from reputable sources.
  6. Read reviews about software you want to download. (use a sandbox if not sure about the source) 
  7. Secure your mobile phone Check this for some advicec



Proton Email: (More secure than most)
Every time you send an email it is as if you were sending a postcard, (anyone of the people involved in the delivery can read what it says)“ProtonMail offers encrypted email, which makes it virtually impossible for anyone to read it except the sender and the recipient.” Wall Street Journal

2-Step Verification (Recomended)
Makes it almost impossible for your account to be hacked as it adds an extra layer of security; the hacker will need to know your username, password and will also need access to your phone in order to get access to specific codes generated by the phone app. Google's Authenticator app allows you to secure accounts like amazon, teamviewer, last pass, paypal, dropbox.
